Disability Ambassador role- a new appointment

Aidan Toomey has been appointed as an Ambassador for Disabled People’s User Led Organisations (DPULOs) by the UK Office of Disability Issues. He will be covering parts of Lancashire, Merseyside, West Yorkshire, Manchester, and Burnley.

The programme was launched by the Minister for Disabled People, Maria Miller, to strengthen local disabled people’s user-led organisations (DPULOs).

It will give DPULOs the opportunity to build their expertise and improve local services, as well as bid for money for specific projects from a £3 million fund.

Aidan’s role is to promote the benefits of DPULOs and to assist those organisations in the geographical areas above. He will be sharing his role with eleven other Ambassadors who, like him, will work in specific regions.

Aidan said of his appointment:

‘As a Disability Ambassador, I know that DPULOs all over the country are building a strong track record of working alongside disabled people and other key stakeholders to influence and deliver change.’

‘This is a really exciting opportunity for me to promote the important work of Disabled People in the North West further and to develop effective and successful partnerships which will help shape future policies and service delivery.’
